Despite a one-week layoff, the Boerne High softball team didn’t show any rust after they run-ruled visiting La Vernia on Tuesday, 12-0.
Boerne was scheduled to play in the Dripping Springs tournament last weekend but it was called because of the weather so their last game before Tuesday was last Tuesday when they beat Lake Travis.
Boerne improves to 6-3 overall and is scheduled to play in the Seguin tournament this weekend.
BHS broke open a 0-0 contest with 7 runs in the second inning. The Lady Hounds hit back-to-back homers in the inning for the 3-0 lead.
Madi Dorrow blasted a two-run shot and then Taryn Madlock followed with a solo homer. Boerne sent 11 batters to the plate in the inning and used the 2 homers, a double by Taylor Wilson, followed by 2 walks and 3 singles for the 7-0 lead.
BHS added 3 more runs in the third and 2 more in the fourth to make it 12-0 lead. After the Bears didn’t score in the top of the fifth, the game ended with the mercy rule.
Boerne finished with 8 hits and Dorrow scored twice and drove in 2 runs, Madlock picked up an RBI and scored twice, while Wilson picked up an RBI and scored once.
Brooke Sivek singled and walked, collected 2 RBI and scored a run, Heidi Maytum singled and scored and pushed in 3 runs, Ava Rodriguez singled, Reese Wilson walked, pushed in a run and scored, Morgan Duty walked and scored, Ashley Clingman singled and pushed in a run, Ava Nieto scored twice, Ava Renteria singled, scored and had an RBI.
Dorrow picked up the win from the circle and gave up 2 hits, no runs, struck out 10 and walked 3 on 87 pitches.
