Join the partners at Carriage House Gallery of Artists from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, to celebrate Bonnie Mann’s lovely artwork and to learn about her inspiration and techniques.

Mann prefers creating still life paintings in oils. Rummaging through family treasures and purchasing objects in antique shops, she creates the setups for her paintings. Her painterly style gives her paintings a feeling of movement, drawing the viewer in, inviting a closer look at the visible brush strokes and to get a sense of the artist’s creative energy.

In her artist’s statement, Mann said, “I strive to convey the beauty I see daily in the world around me, in each and every still life or landscape painting. I invite the viewer on a journey to explore the world of color, light and form. I want to tell a story with every painting, summoning the viewer to finish the story. Art is my therapy of choice. I seek it daily. It fills my heart and soul.”

Mann’s studio, adjoining her home, is a cozy place with plenty of light. Her process begins with a sketch using thinned oil paints. Color is added after the under painting is dry and the lighting has been adjusted for effect. She prefers painting wet on wet, starting with darks and building to color and highlights that is defined as “chiaroscuro.”

Welcome back, Bonnie Mann! The gallery is located at 110 Rosewood Ave. in Boerne. For information, call 830-248-1184 or visit www.carriagehousegallerytx.com.

A shout out to a Boerne favorite, artist Guy Jackson, who recently completed a commissioned oil painting, “Headwaters Ranch.” As we understand it, the collector came into Gallery 195 just before Christmas and fell in love with Guy’s work.

His words to Guy were “I love your use of light and texture using a palette knife. I love your impressionistic take and exaggerations. I have been looking for a local artist to paint the spring morning view from the porch of our family ranch in Tarpley.”

We think you will agree that Jackson’s painting is a visual feast.
