The fall team tennis season opened last weekend for one Boerne ISD team and was supposed to begin for another BISD squad but didn’t.

Champion

Boerne Champion kicked off its 2023 season Friday on the road at Wimberley and toppled the Texans, 14-5, to start the year at 1-0.

Chargers coach Joey Cantu said it was a strong start to the season.

“We played really well,” he said. Champion will host Judson on Thursday, 4 p.m., and then play two matches on Saturday. The Chargers face Flour Bluff at 9 a.m. and Brennan at 1:30 p.m.

Boerne High

Boerne High was scheduled to play at home against Uvalde on Friday but that match didn’t happen because of COVID. Both Coyotes coaches were diagnosed with COVID so the match was canceled.

BHS coach Tyson Stewart said because of a tight schedule the match will not be made up. Instead, Boerne’s season opener was Tuesday at home against S.A. Johnson at the Greyhound courts.

The Hounds will also host a doubleheader Saturday with Brennan, 9 a.m. and Flour Bluff, 1:30 p.m.
