October 8, 1929 – August 2, 2023
John Albert Cindrick, 93, died at home with his family Aug. 2, 2023.
He was born Oct. 8, 1929, in Trees Mills, Pennsylvania, to Mili and Marie (Moore) Cindrick. John was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, the late Marvis Beverly Cindrick of Jeannette who passed in December of 2021.
He is survived by his daughter, Lori Pounds and husband Kevin of Boerne, Texas, as well as grandsons, John and Joshua. His eight siblings preceded him, including Anabelle Santucci, Bertha Steiner, Mary Stevens, Mildred (Sis) Cindrick, Jim, Margaret Gross, Dorothy Shayka and Nancy Elliott. There are numerous adoring nieces and nephews.
John worked on the Walter’s farm as a young boy and then, as a teenager during World War II, at Jeannette Glass factory as a heavy machine operator. He enlisted in the Army at 17 and was in the Ordinance 930 1st TSU Detachment K at Aberdeen; acknowledged as a WWII veteran.
Upon discharge, he worked for CA Walters Movers, AE Oblock and Buncher construction companies driving machinery (high lifts, dozers and shovels) that built many of the highways across Pennsylvania. He then stayed closer to home, working at Hockensmith Steel in Penn from 1963-1993.
He honestly enjoyed the last 30 years of retirement but never had a dull day, always productive and could be quoted saying “Rise and Shine.” He never had an idle moment and was independently living, driving, and even mowing his grass shortly before his death.
He mostly enjoyed travel including trips to Croatia to see where his father Mili came from and in this past year to the WWII museum in New Orleans, Alaska, and Glacier Bay (even taking a helicopter ride to land on a glacier), the Grand Canyon and a glorious train ride across Canada.
He could find anyone in any country or state to converse with. His joyful happy eyes and smile will be missed by all.
Services were held Friday, Aug. 11 at Twin Valley Memorial Park in Delmont, Pennsylvania followed by a gathering at his beloved Slickville American Legion Post 18, 2958 PA-819, Slickville, Pennsylvania.
