Betty Ann Aue
On December 19, 2021, Betty Ann Aue departed this world from pulmonary arrest at Morningside Ministry Retirement Community near Boerne, Texas. She was 84 years old.
Betty grew up in Leon Springs Texas and received a degree in mathematics from the University of Texas in Austin. She taught mathematics in Austin for a few years, then traveled and taught in the Middle East. A year later, Betty returned to Austin where she worked for the University of Texas at Austin for some years, then returned to San Antonio and continued working for UTSA.
Betty remained single her whole life.
We all learned so much from Betty. She was an avid reader who took particular interest in Russian history as well as her Newton Family lineage. She took two opportunities to travel to Russia for sightseeing and exploration to further her knowledge of the country.
Betty was an upstanding member of the San Antonio Opera Guild. She met wonderful people through SAOG and traveled often for opera performances domestically in Austin, Houston, Santa Fe, St Louis, Seattle and New York City. She also traveled throughout Europe exploring and taking in
international opera performances.
In her later years, Betty took over managing the estate of her beloved and famed parents, Rudolph Aue Jr., for which “Rudy’s BBQ” is named, and Julia Newton-Aue of Julia Newton Aue Elementary School, but still attended operas domestically until the day she could no longer travel.
Betty is survived by her brother, Rudolph Aue III; and cousins Ann Voelcker Abel, Louis Voelcker, Bob Estes and Sue Estes Hess; as well as many second cousins.
She is sorely missed by those who knew her best.
