A couple of Boerne ISD baseball players, and a former coach, will take part in the High-Plains Shootout to be held July 17-19 in Enid, Oklahoma.

The three-day series pits Texas teams against Oklahoma teams and former Boerne High baseball coach Bill Merrell will lead Team Texas-Red, while Merrell’s son Cody, who is coaching in Norman, Oklahoma, will lead one of the Oklahoma squads.

Also, Boerne High’s Hutson Hendrix will suit up for Team Texas – Red Merrell, while Boerne Champion’s Gage Goldberg will play for Team Texas – Navy.

Both Hendrix and Goldberg were catchers this past season for their respective teams and also spent time at first base. They’ll both wear No. 17 for their all-star teams and Goldberg is listed as a catcher, while Hendrix is listed as a Utility player.

The event is open to juniors and sophomores based on the last school year and the event used to be called the Sunbelt Series.
