Charger soccer teams drop matches to Drip

Both the Boerne Champion varsity soccer teams took on Dripping Springs in district action last week and lost to the Tigers on Friday.

The Chargers continue 26-5A action Tuesday when they open the month of March against Alamo Heights. The Champion boys visit the Mules and the Lady Chargers host Heights.

Varsity Boys

Champion’s offense put up two goals against the Tigers but Dripping Springs had more firepower and doubled-up the Chargers, 4-2, Friday in Boerne.

Champion slips to 3-6-1 in district and 4-7-3 overall.

Will Wallace and Crew Pulliam both scored goals for the Chargers.

Mario Cervantes was in goal for the Chargers during Friday’s match.

Varsity Girls

Champion took an early lead against defending 5A state-champion Dripping Springs, but the Tigers were able to rally past the Chargers with two second-half goals and win 2-1.

Champion slips to 10-3-2 overall and 7-3 in district, with two 26-5A losses coming to the Tigers.

The Chargers scored in the first two minutes of the match after Lorenna Garza knocked in a goal on the assist from Mack Arendall.

Champion held the lead for a long time and was up at the break 1-0 but the Tigers scored early in the second half to knot it up at 1-1 in the first five minutes.

About midway through the half, Drip knocked in the go-ahead goal for the 2-1 lead and held it until the end.

The Tigers outshot the Chargers, 18-5, and has 12 shots on goal vs. 4 for Champion.
