Talk about the difference a change in leadership makes in a political body. This most recent Commissioners Court meeting (6/12/2023) demonstrated just that. A funding issue relating to Das Greenhaus was once again on the agenda. During the deliberations to determine the amount of money Kendall County taxpayers would provide to support of this initiative, County Judge Shane Stolarczyk distinguished himself by voicing what I believe to be the opinion of the majority of Kendall County Citizens on this matter.
The funding was eventually approved by a 4 to 1 vote of the court (Judge Stolarczyk being the lone dissenting vote) but, fortunately, was significantly less than the original amount approved by the former Court.
However, in my opinion, even this final dollar amount remained totally unjustifiable in light of the demands being placed on our county budget.
Those of us in attendance were treated to the rare spectacle of two former members of the court who voted to approve the original funding both speaking in favor of the current funding being requested.
Both individuals implored the current members of the court to vote in favor – their primary rationale being to not do so would undermine “the integrity of County government.”
Frankly, I found their arguments to be duplicitous and disingenuous while at the same time quite amusing. I don’t recall during the many years of monitoring the activities of the Kendall County Commissioners Court ever recognizing such a concern being an overriding principle guiding the actions of either of the individuals.
Perhaps there was an underlying reason for the impassioned pleas of both individuals; perhaps they had an ulterior motive; that being a last-ditch desperate effort to salvage their much debated and some say dubious political legacies. Just a thought… - Robert L. Imler Kendall County resident
