The Kendall County 4H rifle team set their sights, literally, on winning their first state championship at the start of the season back in August.
On June 4, they headed to Victoria, Texas, to try and realize their goal at the Texas 4H Indoor Rifle Championship.
In one of the most dominating performances by a team and individually, our local shooters won by an astounding 27-point lead. They managed to shoot 86 points higher than the previous year when they earned third place.
Led by Comfort junior Brenna Green, who posted the highest individual score ever recorded at the state match, five of the top 10 shooters to make the finals were from Kendall County. In addition to winning a custom 4H belt buckle and firstplace banners, the team was recognized at Texas A&M University at the 4H State Roundup convention this past week.
The team is led by longtime head coach Fred Stehling (30+ years) and assistant coach Jimmy Pankratz (15 years).
