Summer didn’t start in April this year as it often does, but June is bringing the heat. Boerne breweries are prepared to cool down patrons with new offerings to serve as air conditioning for your insides.
There are plenty of new seasonals and small batch brews on at Cibolo Creek Brewing Co. including the Lost Male Pale Ale brewed in the East Coast style, an Oat Saison that marries the smooth mouthfeel of the oats with mellow spice, and the Norwegian-style Kveik but with a hoppy twist. For those looking for something a little different, the refreshing, house-made Lemon- Lime hard seltzer is on tap to slake thirsts.
Free Roam Brewing Co. released its Hop Skud IPA this week. The brew comes across a little lighter and brighter than a typical IPA with a crisper, lighter body and the hops delivered more through the aroma than in IBUs (International Bitterness Units).
Wednesday marks the return of Mango Vice, a wheat beer with mango puree. The Squeeze Season release on Friday, June 16, will be a treat for lovers of Citra, Mosaic and the newer Strata hop varieties. They are showcased in the juicy pale ale made with the addition of malted wheat.
Tusculum Brewing Co. has its always-popular Tusculum Lite on draft. If you’re drinking more than two beers, at 3.8% ABV, this is the one to have. Other hot-weather pint hoists include the mellow Lion Slide Kolsch, the College Try dry-hopped American lager, the Foggy Donkey hazy pale ale with hops bringing some citrus and berry flavors to the party, and Santa Gertrudis cream ale with old-school Willamette hops from the Pacific Northwest and touch of sweetness. Czech pilsner is arguably one of the greatest inventions of mankind and a well-made interpretation made fresh and local can change how even the most die-hard ale drinker thinks about lagers. To that end, Tusculum has its Praha Pils on draft. They also are offering up a Mexican-style lager with a touch of corn in the mix with Puro Boerne, the tart refresher Back Porch Berliner inspired by the Weisse beers of Berlin and the Freudian Slip Vienna lager. If Vienna- style lagers, which mostly died out in Europe decades ago, doesn’t sound familiar then think of Mexican beers Negro Modelo and Victoria and you’ll have an idea of what to expect.
Barrelman Brewing Co. is expanding their open days of the week to accommodate summer sipping. The new times are Thursday and Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
