During its May 8 meeting, the Kendall County Commissioners Court voted to create the Kendall County Public Safety Corporation with the purpose of aiding, assisting, and acting on behalf of Kendall County in the performance of its governmental functions to promote the common good, general welfare, and public safety of the County.
The court appointed Commissioner Andra M. Wisian as Chair and Commissioner Richard Chapman and Commissioner Chad Carpentar as members.
“I believe that the Public Safety of our residents in the County is a top priority. In 2021, the prior Commissioners Court authorized the hiring of paid firefighters to support the volunteer departments when coverage was thin. The County has continued to fund volunteer departments with personnel and equipment,” said Andra Wisian, Chairwoman.
“Initially, this is just a restructuring of the existing services by assigning County employees and related resources to the Corporation and providing paid firefighter support to the county volunteer departments.”
Moving forward, the Board of the Corporation will be advised by all the volunteer fire chiefs to ensure a coordinated effort to provide services throughout the county. Jeff Fincke, County Fire Marshall will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation.
The Board will recommend to the County Commissioners Court the allocation of funding for personnel, equipment, and other items as needed or deemed appropriate.
“Developing a local government corporation as a non-taxing entity that can coordinate and organize County fire departments; be a resource for future centralization of equipment, staffing and training; and be flexible to the need of the County as we continue our rapid growth seemed the best option to serve the people,” said Wisian.
