January 16, 1937 – May 17, 2023
John David “JD” Blair passed away peacefully on May 17, 2023. JD was loved by all who knew him and was known for his compassion, determination to take care of those he loved, and his clever sense of humor.
JD valued family above all else. He was a devoted husband to Doris Blair for 61 years, a wonderful father to Keith Blair (wife Susie, deceased) and Laura “Lori” Blair Hansen (husband, Richard), and an absolutely amazing grandfather to Dylan Aldrete (wife, Ashley) and Conner Aldrete. He was especially excited to welcome his first great grandchild, Lianna Aldrete, last year and one of his favorite activities during his recent hospitalization was watching videos of her. In addition to these family members, JD is survived by his brother, Joseph L. Blair, and many adoring nieces and nephews. JD was born in San Antonio, moving to Boerne his freshman year of high school. He left to attend college but came home to care for his ailing parents. JD served in the Army and then the Reserves for several years before working at Foremost Dairy for a time. He then worked at Camp Stanley and retired after a long career in civil service. JD also owned carwashes in Boerne and Comfort over the years. For enjoyment, he loved to bowl and spent many years on leagues at the Boerne Turn Verein. He was also an avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, and Baylor Lady Bears and could often be found yelling at the referees on TV to let them know of his frustrations with their calls. He anticipated the arrival of spring every year so he could watch the Purple Martins arrive, and he and Doris spent hours enjoying them together.
JD will be greatly missed by all lucky enough to have been a part of his life, but his legacy will carry on in his beloved family.
A graveside funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Boerne Cemetery. To leave condolences for the family, please visit www.ebensberger-fisher. com. Arrangements with Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home of Boerne.
