Douglas Alan Karnes, 76, of Boerne, TX passed away peacefully on May 1, 2023, at Methodist Hospital Metropolitan in San Antonio. He was surrounded by loved ones through his final moments and went to meet his Heavenly Father at 6:05 PM.

Douglas was born to Robert and Gloria Karnes on April 14, 1947, in Bridgeport, CT. His father was a Connecticut State Trooper, and his mother was a homemaker and an artist. At age 21, he joined the United States Army, where he was attached to the 5th Special Forces and was part of the Army Intelligence Agency. He served his country with courage and valor throughout the Vietnam War as a Russian interpreter and sharpshooter until being honorably discharged in 1972. After the war, Douglas moved to California and married Tami Ortega, and they began their lifelong journey as Mr. and Mrs. Karnes on Dec 24, 1992. They and their two children moved to Arizona and eventually settled in Texas where Douglas and Tami shared a rich life of volunteering, community service, spiritual outreach, and mentoring of younger generations of friends and spiritual leaders.

Douglas is survived by his wife Tami Karnes, 58, and his two children Kirsten Wright of Austin, TX, 37, and Dustin Karnes of Sugar Land, TX, 35. He also leaves his legacy to his wonderful grandchildren: Avi Wright, 19, Gavin Wright, 13, Shelby Solano, 19, Alyx Karnes, 12, and Liam Karnes, 10.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 21 at 2:30 PM at God Will Provide Church (formerly Healing Place Church) - 28703 Frontage Rd, Boerne, TX 78006. The service will be followed by a short fellowship gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that loved ones make a donation in Douglas’ name to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the Humane Society.
