Over 1,200 votes cast by Tuesday morning
Election season is nearing its final day as Election Day rolls in Saturday, May 6, but election turnout in Kendall County is proving less fruitful than previous years.
By Tuesday morning, 1,253 Kendall County residents had showed up to the polls to cast their vote for the future mayor of Boerne or their District 2 City Council representative.
This figure suggests a downward trend from the county and city’s last early voting season May of 2022, but it’s on part with the May elections in both 2021 and 2019 – off-year elections.
By the end of the early bird season last year, 1,459 votes had been cast – about 4.5 percent of eligible voters in the county at the time – and in 2019, Because the city of Fair Oaks Ranch has contracted its election services with Kendall County, early voting results are included on the county’s website for both the Bexar County and Comal County portions of Fair Oaks Ranch.
By Tuesday morning, 253 Bexar County dwellers and 53 Comal residents had their say on who would serve in Place 2 for the Fair oaks Ranch City Council, meaning only 306 Fair Oaks Ranch residents across the two counties had cast a ballot – a significant drop from 2021’s 1,635 residents.
However, because part of Fair Oaks falls within Kendall County, it’s challenging to know which Kendall residents were split between the two city elections.
While the numbers may be slipping, Election Day usually pulls the largest crowds, and the numbers mirror national trends of feigning participation in the civic duty during off-year elections.
Those interested in casting a vote on Election Day, Saturday, in the Boerne election may do so at Boerne City Hall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and those housed in Fair Oaks Ranch can cast a ballot within the same time frame at the Fair Oaks Ranch Police Department in the public safety training room.
