The UIL softball playoffs will start this week for two area teams – Boerne High and Comfort.
Boerne plays Gonzales and the Comfort Deer open the postseason against Tuscola Jim Ned.
Boerne High
Boerne High will have a one-game playoff against Gonzales on Friday. The game will be played in Marion at 6 p.m. and is winner-take-all contest with Friday’s winner advancing to the second round.
The Lady Greyhounds won District 27-4A with a record of 9-1. They are 24-9 entering the playoffs, while Gonzales had to win last Friday against San Antonio Kennedy in order to claim fourth place in District 28-4A. The Lady Apaches are 9-21 and went 4-6 in district.
Comfort Deer
The Comfort softball team is having its best season in almost two decades after the Deer won this year’s district title for the first time since 2004.
Comfort went 9-1 in District 5-3A and is 17-11 entering this weekend’s series, while Jim Ned finished fourth in 6-3A with a record of 7-7. The Lady Indians ended the season at 13-19-1 overall.
Comfort will have a lot of traveling this postseason because they are in Region I and not Region IV, and will play teams west of Comfort.
