Davenport had a strong start to Friday’s baseball game at Boerne High and went on to defeat the Greyhounds, 10-4. BHS slips to 24-4 overall and 11-2 in district. They’ll close out the regular season this week against Wimberley and hosted the Texans on Tuesday and play in Wimberley on Friday.
The Hounds had already wrapped up the district title prior to last Friday’s game, while Davenport is still fighting for a playoff spot.
The Wolves scored 2 runs in each of the first 3 frames and then added 3 runs in the fourth to scored 9 of its 10 runs by the fourth inning.
Boerne High was trailing 6-0 by the time they scratched for their first run of the game with a single run in the third to make it 6-1.
The Wolves responded with 3 runs in the fourth to open up a 9-1 lead but the Hounds pushed in another run in the bottom half of the fourth and the score was 9-2 and then BHS made it interesting with a couple more runs in the fifth.
A double and four singles by the Hounds scored the 2 runs and the lead was down to 9-4, but the Davenport start was too much to overcome and Boerne didn’t score after the fifth.
Davenport added a run in the top of the sixth that held until the end at 10-4. The Wolves had a good game at the plate and finished with 12 hits, while BHS had 8 hits, 7 of them singles.
Riley Pechacek had the only extra base hit for the Hounds after he doubled in the fifth. He also scored a run, while Brooks Perez walked and scored, Cam Johnson finished with 3 singles, scored a run and drove in a run, Hudson McNew singled and picked up 2 RBI, Hutson Hendrix recorded a hit, Jace Preston scored once, Dylan Perez singled and Cale Blalock singled.
Landon Lestourgeon went 3 innings on the hill and gave up 7 hits, 6 runs and 2 walks to go with 2 strikeouts. Jake Wright and Tanner Tuschinski also threw in the game. Wright yielded 3 hits, 3 runs, no walks and he walked 4 in 1.2 innings of work, while Tuschinski surrendered 2 hits, 1 run, no walks and he sat down 1.
