Chargers varsity teams sweep district track meet

NEW BRAUNFELS – The Champion track and field teams made it a clean sweep after they both claimed district titles at last week’s 26-5A meet at NB Canyon.

NEW BRAUNFELS – The Champion track and field teams made it a clean sweep after they both claimed district titles at last week’s 26-5A meet at NB Canyon.

The Lady Chargers edged out favorite Smithson Valley by 10 points, 164-154, to take the title, while the Champion boys blew the field away with 219 points to beat the second-place Rangers (141) by 78 points.

The top 4 finishers advanced to this week’s Area meet, also at Canyon, while the top 6 score team points. For results of the Area meet, look in the Boerne Star.

Varsity Girls

Beth Leachman won the 3200 with a time of 10:22 for the best 5A time in the state so far and is also one of the best times in the nation. Grace Flores finished 4th in the 3200 with an 11:37 and Jenna Koepke was 5th to earn more team points after running an 11:47.

Leachman also won the 1600 after running a 4:55, while Kynley Albright was 3rd with a 5:09 and Josey Whitaker came in 4th after posting a 5:12.

Kendall Fallon placed 2nd in the 800 after clocking in at 2:18 and Destiney Rose was 6th in 2:23, Addison Hankins came in 2nd in the 100 hurdles after turning in a 15.42, Vanesa Gonzalez finished 2nd in the 100 dash with a time of 12.47, while Destiney Rose was 4th in the 400 at 59.67 and Reagan Burkey came in 6th in the 400 with a 1:01.

Addison Hankins won the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.49 and Kendall Fallon was 3rd after she posted a 46.0, while Mariela Gonzalez finished 2nd in the 200 with a 24.88.

The Chargers 4x100 of Madison Meinke, Vanesa Gonzales, Mariela Gonzales and Erin Fallon took 1st with a time of 47.40, while Meinke, both Gonzalez girls and Fallon combined for a time of 1:40 in the 4x200 for 2nd.

Also, the 4x400 of Addison Hankins, Erin Fallon, Destiney Rose and Kendall Fallon came in 2nd after clocking in at 4:00.

In field events, Hailee Goodwin won the shot put with a toss of 35-9.5 and Goodwin also threw the discus 96- 7 for 5th, while Lorena Barreiro- Bidot was 5th in the shot put with a toss of 32-7.50.

Peyton Smith cleared 4-10 in the pole vault for 4th and Carsyn Bradley went 34-1 in the triple jump for 5th.

Varsity Boys

Charlie Houck took 1st in the 3200 race after recording a 9:48 and William Coover was 6th with a 10:24.

Luis Tovar ran the 800 in a time of 1:57.58 and Caleb Dehart placed 5th in the race with a time of 1:58.67. Tovar also took 2nd in the 1600 with a 4:24 and Charlie Houck was 5th in the 1600 at 4:30.

Brock Lewis won the 110 hurdles after clocking in at 15.25 and Ben Blomqvist finished 3rd in the race after turning in a 15.64. Lewis and Blomqvist also went 1-2 in the 300 hurdles after Lewis won the race with a time of 39.58 and Blomqvist was right behind at 40.40, while Grant Menzies placed 6th with a 41.46.

Arlis Adickes posted a time of 11.32 in the 100 for 4th place, Hayden Brace came in 6th in the 400 with a time of 51.65 and Sawyer Bolli finished 4th in the 200 in a time of 22.65.

In relays, Champion’s 4x100 of Corbin Mitchell, Sawyer Bolli, Ranger Lewis and Arlis Adickes combined for a time of 42.70 that was good enough for 3rd and the 4x200 of Luke Rossi, Bolli, Lewis and Adickes teamed up for 2nd after recording a 1:29.

In the 4x400, Ranger Lewis, Brock Lewis, Hayden Brace and Ben Blomqvist posted a time of 3:21 that placed them in 2nd.

In field events, Blomqvist won the high jump after he cleared 6-4 and Griffin Jones was 2nd at 6-2, while Robert Wegleitner cleared 6-0 with five others but finished 7th. Brooks Jones won the pole vault with a vault of 14-6, Landon Kolacny came in 3rd at 13-0 and Luke Rossi was 4th at 13-0.

Joshua Hierholzer won the long jump with a leap of 21-2.25, Hayden Brace was 3rd at 21-0 and Ben Blomqvist finished 6th at 20-10. Brace and Hierholzer went 1-2 in the triple jump after Brace won the event with a distance of 43-11 and Hierholzer was 2nd with a distance of 43-2.75.

Aiden Harris tossed the discus 156-11 for 2nd, Connor Warzecha was one spot back in 3rd at 155-0 and Riley Wampler finished 5th in the event with a throw of 145-1. Wampler came in 2nd in the shot put with a 50-5.75 and Warzecha was 6th at 44-6.75.
