Jack Estess

Jack Estess

December 14, 1945 – February 12, 2022

Jack Estess, 76, went home to the Lord on Saturday, February 12, 2022, after battling liver cancer. Jack was born in San Antonio, Texas, at the Nix Hospital on December 14, 1945, to Jack Estess Sr. and Verbie Poerner Estess.

Jack grew up in San Antonio and was known by his family as Skip/Skipper. He attended John Marshall High School and quickly after entered sales with Heusinger Hardware. He married Susan Wells Coy in 1966 and started his family in San Antonio. He then moved his family to Boerne, Texas, in 1972.

Jack worked many years selling hardware throughout the Hill Country. He ended his career as a sales rep from Buttery Hardware. He loved his job. He loved working with people.

Jack would act on many of his dreams, one of them being to build a house in the Hill Country. He built two homes in Boerne and went on raising his family. He loved being outside in his garden, mowing the grass, burning the brush and being a master of the BBQ pit. He is known for his outstanding brisket that melted in your mouth and pork ribs that you could pull the meat right off the bone. He loved hunting in the Hill Country, fishing at the coast and pulling skiers around on Medina Lake.

Jack was very active in the San Antonio Livestock Exposition with 50 years of volunteering on the Hospitality/Information Committee. He never met a stranger and could tell you anything you needed to know about the San Antonio Rodeo. He also volunteered with Boerne Berges Fest for five years where he continued to dedicate his time to the needs of others.

Jack stayed very close with his high school friends. This group of friends have a yearly get-together of sitting around a campfire, telling stories, sharing memories and raising a cup to cheers for many years to come. These friends have continued keeping in touch with these reunions for 50 years.

Jack is survived by Sharon Duncan Pike (partner for 25 years); his daughters, Michele Burgoyne (Eddie) and Deanne Luther (Joel); and five grandchildren, Sydney Burgoyne, Jack Burgoyne, Taylor Burgoyne, Trevor Luther and Trenton Luther. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Estess (Janie); nephew James Estess (Wendy); and nieces, Joanne Scheall and Jeanie Hutnyak (Zac). Jack also has numerous family members and friends who touched his life just as he touched theirs.

Please join us in celebrating his life on Saturday, March 5, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home, 111 Rosewood Ave., Boerne, TX. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the American Liver Foundation http://liverfoundation.org
