Lady Hounds have 8 basketball players and coach honored by district

The Boerne High girls basketball team dominated this year’s all-district selections after the Lady Greyhounds won the 27-4A title and eventually advanced all the way to the 4A state tournament.

The Lady Hounds had 8 players and its head coach Amy Ruede receive district awards.

Ruede was named Coach of the Year; senior Jamie Ruede was voted the District MVP and junior Averi Aaron was selected as the Defensive MVP.

First-team selections for the Lady Greyhounds include junior Abby Smith, sophomore Jenna Ruede and sophomore Savannah Salinas.

Sophomore Chloe O’Donnell landed on the second team, while senior Liz Fox and junior Mickena Randle were both named honorable mention.

It was a great year for the Lady Greyhounds that ended in the Alamodome at the 4A state tournament. After only dropping one game in non-district, the Boerne girls ran through the 27-4A schedule  with a 12-0 mark and then won five playoff games, including the regional title over Fredericksburg. 

It was Boerne’s third win against the Billies this year and advanced them to the 4A state tournament where they were defeated by Sunnyvale in the state semifinals, 49-47, for only their second loss of the season.

Boerne finished the year with a record of 35-2.
