AUSTIN – Members of the Champion swim and dive team turned in a historic performance at last weekend’s 5A state meet in Austin.
Not only did the Chargers earn one gold and two silver medals in relay events, but they also had the program’s highest finish at state on both the boys and girls side.
The Lady Chargers picked up gold and silver medals and tallied 121 points for fourth overall, the first time the girls have finished in the top 5.
On the boys side, Champion earned a silver medal and scored 96 points for 7th place overall, also their best finish as a team.
Chargers coach Alberto Escalante said the team performed well.
“It’s huge, it’s all about the kids, they’ve been working hard and we set goals for ourselves. We knew coming into this year based on our success last year that expectations were high,” he said. “For us to be in a competitive district and region and perform at such a high level, it speaks volumes of the kids.”
