Lady Chargers open second round of soccer by beating Canyon

The Boerne Champion girls soccer team opened the second round of district play on Friday at home by hosting New Braunfels Canyon and the results were the same as their first-round meeting.

The Boerne Champion girls soccer team opened the second round of district play on Friday at home by hosting New Braunfels Canyon and the results were the same as their first-round meeting.

Champion completed the season sweep of the Cougars and won Friday’s match at Charger Field in a shutout, 2-0.

Champion is 10-2-2 overall and 7-2 in district. They are off Tuesday and continue 26-5A action Friday by visiting Dripping Springs.

Friday’s match was defensive and there weren’t too many shots. The Chargers had 9 shots, 8 on goal, while Canyon had 4 shots and 2 on goal.

Avery Case broke a 0-0 tie late in the first half with a goal on the assist from Addison Huber for the 1-0 lead with 2:01 left until halftime.

Champion’s second goal was late in the second half and came from Emma Mae Dixon on the assist from Vivian Garza to make it 2-0 with 13 minutes left.

Audrey Riordan was in goal and came up with 2 saves as the defense pitched a shutout.
