Boerne High’s home run hitting prowess continued Monday night at Davenport. After hitting 7 out against Bandera in its last game, the Lady Greyhounds knocked 4 more out of the park against the Wolves for 11 in its last two contests.

Davenport played BHS tough and the Lady Hounds needed just about all of those home runs to come from behind and record the 8-4 win.

It was a game that was supposed to be played last Thursday but was pushed back to this week because of the weather.

Boerne is 22-8 overall and 7-0 in district and has now hit 33 home runs in 30 games this year. They hosted Canyon Lake on Tuesday and visit Fred on Friday.

Three of the 4 home runs came from the three Ava’s on the team – Rodriguez, Renteria and Nieto.

Ava Rodriguez gave Boerne the early lead with a solo homer in the second for the 1-0 edge, but the Wolves answered in the bottom of the third with a double to bring in a runner from second to tie it at 1-1.

Another double by the Wolves in the 5th inning drove in 2 more runs and put Davenport ahead at 3-1, but that’s when Boerne closed out the game with three more home runs.

In the top of the sixth, Taryn Madlock smacked a 2-run shot to tie it at 3-3. Later in the inning, Ava Renteria blasted a 3-run bomb over the left-field fence and Boerne was up 6-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Wolves scratched for a run after hitting three consecutive singles and the lead was down to 6-4, but Boerne’s home run assault continued in the seventh. Ava Nieto knocked out a 2-run homer with no outs to make it 8-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, Davenport made things interesting and put its first two runners on with no outs to put the tying run on deck, but Rodriguez struck out the next three batters she faced to end the threat.

Rodriguez picked up the win on 160 pitches, gave up 8 hits, 4 runs, 5 walks and struck out 14.

Renteria led the team in RBIs with 3, Nieto scored the most runs with 2 and Madlock had the most hits with 3. Isa Renteria also recorded a double.
