SAN ANTONIO – While many of its track and field members were entered in the Texas Relays in Austin a few weeks ago, others were participated at the Northside Relays in San Antonio.
Despite being shorthanded because of those who attended the Texas Relays, the Chargers did well at the Northside meet, taking 1st and 2nd in the varsity divisions.
The Champion boys won the meet with 116 points to beat Taft (87), while the Lady Chargers were 2nd with 92 points behind 1st-place Harlan (151) and ahead of Taft (92) in the field of nine teams.
Champion competed in its district meet this week at New Braunfels Canyon.
Varsity Boys
Zach Garcia finished 4th in the 100 dash with a time of 11.25, William Coover was 6th in the 1600 after posting a 4:53, while Coover also scored points in the 3200 after he was 4th in 10:27.
Grant Menzies came in 3rd in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.58, while the 4x100 of Jamarri Bowie, Will Tolar, Xavier Springston and Zachary Garcia combined for 5th with a time of 44.32, while Bowie, Garcia, Springston and Tolar also competed in the 4x200 relay and placed 6th with a time of 1:34.
Also, the 4x400 of Joshua Hierholzer, Hayden Brace, Benton Warrick and Robert Wegleitner came in 3rd after combining for a time of 3:33.
Hayden Brace went 20- 9.25 in the long jump for 2nd and Joshua Hierholzer placed 4th after he went 20-6, while Riley Wampler won the shot put with a throw of 51- 1.75, Nico Lopez came in 4th at 45-4 and Noah Blomqvist finished 5th with a toss of 44-0.75.
Wampler also won the discus after he turned in a distance of 151-6 and Aiden Harris came in 2nd at 148-8.
Hayden Brace won the triple jump with a distance of 45-0 and Josh Heirholzer took 4th in the triple jump at 42-7.
Robert Wegleitner cleared 5- 10 in the high jump for 2nd and Griffin Jones was 6th at 5-10, Brooks Jones won the pole vault with a vault of 14- 6 and Landon Kolacny finished 4th at 12-0.
In the wheelchair division, Ephraim Tonn- Bourg competed in two races and clocked in at 17.37 in the 100 race and also turned in a time of 1:05.46 in the 400.
Varsity Girls
Juliana Syroney placed 4th in the 100 dash after recording a 12.78, Annabel Guthrie was 4th in the 400 with a time of 1:03 and Emma Rice finished 6th in the 800 after she turned in a time of 2:24.
Kynley Albright won the 1600 with a time of 5:24 and Grace Flores came in 4th after she ran a 5:27, while Jenna Koepke clocked in at 12: 24 for 5th in the 3200.
The Chargers went 3-4-5 in the 100 hurdles after Addison Hankins took 3rd in the race with a time of 15.75, Ella Bachmann came in 4th with a 17.34 and Larysa Green placed 5th at 17.38.
Hankins won the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.35 and Bachmann was 6th in 51.69.
In the 4x100, Hevyhn Littlejohn, Lauren Ball, Juliana Syroney and Cecily Termeer finished 4th after combining for a 50.93, while the 4x200 of Syroney, Bralyn Gault, Ball and Savannah Wayment teamed up for 6th with a time of 1:50, while the 4x400 of Annabel Guthrie, Emma Rice and Wayment were 6th at 4:24.
Lauren Ball placed 6th in the long jump with a distance of 15-6.75, Hailee Goodwin came in 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 35-5.05, Lorena Barreiro Bidot took 2nd in the discus with a toss of 107-2, Goodwin was 4th at 88-7 and Cameron Wampler registered an 86-4 for 5th.
Savannah Wayment placed 6th in the triple jump with a leap of 32-4, Isabella Perez was 5th in the high jump after she cleared 4-10 and Peyton Smith captured 2nd in the pole vault with a vault of 10- 0, while Talia Venner came in 5th in the pole vault after she went 8-6.
