The Boerne Champion boys soccer team has been involved in a few defensive battles this year and Friday’s match at New Braunfels Canyon was one of those.
Canyon was able to win a close one over the Chargers, 1-0, as the teams began the second round of district play Friday in New Braunfels.
Champion is 4-6-3 overall and 3-5-1 in 26-5A. The Chargers are off Tuesday and host Dripping Springs on Friday.
In their first-round meeting, Champion was able to defeat the Cougars, 3-1, but Canyon turned the tables on Friday and posted the 1-0 win.
In six of its nine district matches so far, the Chargers have either been kept off the board or held to one goal. They are 0-5-1 in those six matches when they struggle to find their offense.
Champion coach Clifton Tierney said they’re young but that they are moving in the right direction as they progress through district play.
