After an 11-1 win over East Central to start the season, the Boerne High softball team hit the road and was in the NFCA Texas Leadoff Classic in College Station last weekend.
The Lady Greyhounds played some tough teams and went 3-3 at the event to start the year at 4-3. Boerne’s rugged schedule continues this week and they are home Tuesday vs. 6A Lake Travis and then they play in the Dripping Springs tournament this coming weekend.
Boerne opened with a 7-5 loss to Byron Nelson. It was tied 4-4 but a 2-run homer swung the game against the Greyhounds.
BHS outhit Nelson, 7-6, and was led by Brooke Sivek who finished with 3 hits, 1 walk and 2 runs scored, Ava Nieto doubled, while Cameron Cooper and Reese Wilson both scored.
Madi Dorrow went 5 innings and tossed 88 pitches.
Up next, the Hounds defeated Hargrave, 7-3, behind 10 hits. Boerne was up 2-0, fell behind 3-2 in the top of the fourth but scored the final 5 runs of the game.
Brooke Sivek again tallied 3 hits, a double and 2 singles, and drove in a run and scored once. Ava Nieto doubled and picked up 2 RBI, Madi Dorrow doubled and scored twice, Cameron Cooper hit 2 singles, Ava Rodriguez hit 2 singles and scored and Ava Renteria walked twice.
Ava Rodriguez was the winning pitcher and gave up 2 hits, 1 earned run and fanned 8.
On Friday, the Hounds were kept off the board and shutout by Argyle, 6-0. They scored 3 in the first and 3 in the third.
BHS recorded 4 hits, including a double from Ava Renteria, while Heidi Maytum, Taryn Madlock and Ava Nieto all singled.
Madi Dorrow threw 98 pitches in 3 innings and gave up 3 earned runs and fanned 4.
Boerne bounced back in a nice way and posted a shutout of its own in the next game, blanking Waller, 10-0.
The Hounds scored 2 in the second, third and sixth innings and plated 4 in the fifth. BHS had 10 hits including a triple by Taryn Madlock and doubles by Madi Dorrow, Ava Nieto and Ava Rodriguez. Rodriguez added a single and Nieto knocked out 2 more singles and drove in 2 runs.
Dorrow collected 2 RBI and Cameron Cooper walked twice and scored twice.
Rodriguez threw 6 frames, yielded 6 hits, no runs and struck out 2, while walking 1.
BHS returned to action on Saturday and beat up Boswell, 11-1. They had 8 runs in the first inning and finished with 9 hits.
Cameron Cooper doubled and singled, pushed in 5 runs and scored once, Madi Dorrow doubled, collected 2 RBI and scored 2 runs, Brooke Sivek doubled and scored 3 runs and Ava Renteria singled and scored twice.
Dorrow won the game on 97 pitches, gave up 3 hits, 1 earned run and fanned 7.
The Hounds closed out the tourney with a 7-1 setback to Midway. BHS only recorded 2 hits and scored its lone run in the second, while Midway had a big second frame and scored 6 of its 7 runs.
Cameron Cooper doubled and Taylor Wilson singled, while Taryn Madlock had an RBI and Heidi Maytum walked.
Madi Dorrow started in the circle and went 4 innings and Isa Renteria tossed one inning and the two had 2 Ks each.
