One member of the Champion tennis team turned in a historic performance last weekend at Kemah Boardwalk Invitational tournament.

The Charger stringers compete at Kemah every year but this was the first time that one of their players won an event after Avi Gallegos took 1st place in girls singles.

Besides Gallegos, there were other great results at this tournament where many of the top teams in the state attended, according to coach Joey Cantu.

“We want this tournament to be a great springboard heading into district,” Cantu said. “The team played a lot of tough competition in preparation for the district tournament. The level of tennis was really high and I think we are ready for our district tournament.”
