Incoming Boerne Chief of Police Steve Perez recently announced that Lt. Cody Lackey has been promoted to assistant chief.
Lackey, who has been with the department since 2004, assumes the position after the retirement of Assistant Chief Jeff Page at the end of February. He will be sworn in as the new assistant chief during a ceremony on Feb. 25, 2022.
Lackey began his career as a dispatcher before completing the police academy requirements and being hired as an officer in 2006. He was promoted to patrol sergeant in 2010 and then served as communications sergeant from 2012-17. Lackey was promoted to lieutenant in 2017 and began supervising the divisions of patrol, criminal investigations, communications and property and evidence.
“Lt. Lackey has had a successful career since joining the Boerne Police Department,” Perez said. “He has continually demonstrated a commitment to the department while managing numerous projects, including the implementation of the body camera program, training of officers, preparation of detailed departmental reports and others.”
Lackey graduated with honors from Wayland Baptist University with a bachelor of applied science degree in justice administration in 2020. Other career highlights include FBI National Academy Session 271, 2018; Master Peace Officer License, 2018; ILEA School of Police Supervision, 2011; IACP Leadership in Police Organizations, 2010; Life Saving Award, 2007; Officer of the Year, 2008; Police Commendation Bar, 2008; Letters of Commendation, 2008, 2010, 2021; American Legion Certificate of Commendation, 2021; 28 Notices of Merit; nine Fit for Duty Awards; five Top Gun awards; and more than 5,800 training hours.
Lackey has served on the boards of several nonprofit and other organizations throughout his career, including the Kendall County Women’s Shelter, the Hill Country Crisis Council Board, the Kendall County Behavior Health Initiative and Kendall County Crime Stoppers.
He is a member of the International Associations of Chiefs of Police, Texas Police Chiefs Association, FBI National Academy Associates, Texas Municipal Police Officers Association, Boerne Police Officers Association and the Boerne Police Foundation.
Lackey is a native of Center Point, Texas. He and his wife of 16 years, Jamie, have three children.
