Charger baseball team finishes off Cougars

It was a game that took two days to complete but when it was finally done, the Champion baseball team emerged with a 6-1 victory over New Braunfels Canyon.

It was a game that took two days to complete but when it was finally done, the Champion baseball team emerged with a 6-1 victory over New Braunfels Canyon.

The game started Tuesday and was halted in the middle because of the weather and then completed on Wednesday.

Champion’s win improves them to 16-5-1 overall and 4-1 in district. The Chargers continued the series with the Cougars Friday at home and start a series with Kerrville Tivy next week. They were also scheduled to play Clark on Saturday in a non-district contest.

Champion scored all 6 of its runs in two innings with 3 in the first and 3 in the fifth, while the Cougars scratched for their only run of the game in the fourth.

Quinn Grable had a good day at the plate and finished with a double and a single, took a walk and drove in 3 runs. Evan Kuhl scored, Jordan Ballin singled, walked and scored twice, Cam Logan took 2 walks and scored a run, Gage Goldberg singled, was walked twice, drove in a run and crossed home plate two times, Ethan Harrison singled and picked up 2 RBI, and Garland Whitehead singled for the Chargers that finished with 6 hits.

Rowdy Miller went the distance on the hill and picked up the win on 101 pitches. Miller gave up 4 hits, 1 run and no walks, while striking out 5.
