Boerne High baseball opened district play on Tuesday when they hosted Bandera, and after a slow start, the Greyhound went on to run rule the Bulldogs.

Boerne High baseball opened district play on Tuesday when they hosted Bandera, and after a slow start, the Greyhound went on to run rule the Bulldogs.

It was 0-0 after the first two frames but the Hounds went on to tally 10 runs over the next three innings and kick in the mercy rule for the 10-0 win.

Boerne improved to 11-1 overall and 1-0 in district. The Greyhounds opened play in the San Marcos tournament on Thursday with wins over Seguin and Harker Heights. For complete tour- nament results, look in the Star.

A couple of home runs in the third inning jump started the Boerne bats. Jace Preston and Riley Pechacek both hit 2-run homers in the third for the 4-0 lead.

Four singles and three walks in the fourth bumped Boerne’s lead to 8-0 after the Hounds scratched for 4 more runs.

The Hounds only sent 4 batters to the plate in the fifth to kick in the mercy rule. A hit batter and two walks loaded the bases with no outs and then Brooks Perez singled to bring in 2 runs and end the game.

Perez and Pechacek finished with 2 RBI each, Preston drove in 3 runs and scored 3 times, Caleb Cloutier took 2 walks and scored 3 runs, Walker Hill singled and walked twice, pushed in 2 runs and scored 2 runs, Xander Cloudy singled and scored, while Cam Johnson hit a double and a single and collected an RBI.

Landon LeStourgeon was the winning pitcher and went all 5 innings. He scattered 4 hits, didn’t give up a run against only 1 walk and struck out 9 on 71 pitches.
