The Boerne High softball team couldn’t get its bats going Tuesday when the Lady Hounds visited Jourdanton for a non-district contest.
BHS struck out 14 times, only registered 2 hits and scored just 1 run in Tuesday’s 5-1 setback.
The Lady Greyhounds slip to 14-8 overall and were scheduled to host Hondo on Friday.
Jourdanton jumped out to the 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the first inning that cleared the left-field wall. They added two more runs in the third for the 3-0 lead before the Lady Hounds could get on the board.
In the fourth frame, Ava Nieto doubled and then moved to third on a dropped third strike to Taryn Madlock. With runners on the corner, Taylor Wilson laid down a sacrifice bunt to push in Nieto and make it 3-1 but that’s where the BHS rally ended.
Jourdanton extended its lead in the fifth after starting the inning with back-to-back singles. They eventually tacked on 2 runs without another hit in the frame after recording a fielder’s choice, a walk and a hit batter for the 5-1 lead before Boerne could get out of the inning.
BHS didn’t record another hit after the fourth inning as Cameron Cooper singled in the third and Nieto doubled in the fourth and scored on the Wilson RBI sac bunt.
Ava Rodriguez went all six innings in the circle and tossed 95 pitches. She yielded 5 hits, 5 runs, 4 walks and sat down 8 batters.
