Comfort faced Nixon-Smiley in the opening-round of the 3A girls basketball playoffs Tuesday night at Greyhound Gym in Boerne.
The Deer and the Lady Mustangs had met earlier in the year and Nixon-Smiley won by three points so Tuesday’s contest was a rematch.
The Mustangs had a fast start and didn’t give the Deer a chance at revenge. Nixon-Smiley won the rematch against Comfort in a blowout, 61-39.
Comfort ends the year at 14-17 overall and will graduate seven seniors.
Tuesday’s game was tied early at 6-6 but Nixon-Smiley went on a 18-2 run and opened up a 24-8 lead and never trailed after that.
The Mustangs went into halftime with a 34-10 advantage which means they outscored the Deer 28-4 after it was knotted at 6-apiece.
Comfort struggled in the second and was held to 2 points and outscored 21-2 after being down 13-8 after one.
Nixon-Smiley won the third quarter, 18-14, and opened up a 54-24 advantage going into the fourth period. Comfort fought to the end and took the final stanza, 15-9.
Daniela Hernandez led the Deer with 10 points, Meghan Davis added 9, Ashlynn Rodriguez scored 5, Erin Alt and Denise Ceja both netted 4, Lula Jaime, Madalynn Rodriguez and Bailey Feldman all chipped in with 2 and Kallie Doss hit a free throw.
Hernandez, Feldman and Davis all grabbed 5 rebounds, Doss and Hernandez came up with 3 steals apiece and Doss tallied 4 assists.
Seniors are Daniela Hernandez, Madalynn Rodriguez, Ashlynn Rodriguez, Kallie Doss, Erin Alt, Lilly Hernandez and Denise Ceja.
