With three matches left in the regular season, the Boerne Champion girls soccer team locked down a playoff spot after defeating Kerrville Tivy last Friday on the road.
Champion’s 2-1 victory over the Lady Antlers gives them the tiebreaker over Tivy and guarantees them at least fourth place in 26-5A.
The Lady Chargers hosted Pieper on Tuesday. They’re at Smithson Valley on Friday and close out the regular season next week at home against Seguin.
Even if the Chargers were to drop its last three and Tivy won its last three, Champion would still advance to the playoffs since they own the tiebreaker over the Antlers with last Friday’s win.
Even though the scoreboard didn’t reflect it, Champion dominated last Friday’s match and outshot the Lady Antlers, 31-6, with 23 shots on goal compared to 5 for Tivy.
The Lady Antlers did score first in the match with a goal midway through the first half, but the Chargers were able to tie it late in the second half.
Addison Huber knocked in the equalizer with 10 minutes left on an unassisted goal and then Ashlyn Plank put the Chargers ahead on the assist from Regan Alt to make it 2-1 with less than 5 minutes remaining.
Maddie Micale and Lola Vaughan were both in goal for the Chargers and came up with 2 saves each.
