Hounds hardball team goes 4-1 at tournament

The Boerne High boys were entered in the Comal ISD Tournament and picked up four wins against a lopsided loss. BHS went 4-1 at the tourney and stands at 10-1 overall. The Greyhounds opened district play Tuesday at home against Bandera before playing in the San Marcos tourney this weekend.

The Hounds opened the Comal tourney with a 10-2 win over Clemens. Boerne scored 5 in the third and finished with 9 hits in the game.

Xander Cloudy doubled and pushed in a run, Brooks Perez hit 2 singles and scored 3 runs, Riley Pechacek hit 2 singles and scored twice, Cam Johnson singled, pushed in 2 runs and scored 2 runs, Hudson McNew crossed home plate twice, Cale Blalock hit 2 singles and pushed in 2 runs, while Walker Hill singled and scored.

Cloudy picked up the win in 5 innings of work and gave up 6 hits, 1 run, no walks and fanned 6. Isaac Carpenter also tossed an inning and sat down 2.

Later on Thursday, BHS beat Buda Hays, 9-0, behind 10 hits, including a Riley Pechacek grand slam.

Pechacek finished with 5 RBI and also hit 2 singles, while Cam Johnson and Hudson McNew both doubled, with Johnson adding 2 singles and 2 RBI to his totals.

Brooks Perez tripled and scored twice, and Jace Preston crossed home plate 2 times.

Landon Lestourgeon went 4.2 innings and won the game after he gave up 2 hits, 2 walks, while striking out 5. Campbell Jackson finished out the game on the bump.

On Friday, the Hounds suffered their only loss of the game, a lopsided defeat at the hands of MacArthur, 18-3.

Mac scored 6 in the first and BHS answered with 3, but the Brahmas finished with 8 in the second and 4 more in the third.

Boerne had 5 hits, including a double from Cam Johnson, while Brooks Perez, Cale Blalock, Caleb Cloutier and Grimes all singled. Perez, Riley Pechacek and Grimes scored.

Hudson McNew, Campbell Jackson, Isaac Carpenter and Perez all threw in the game.

Later on Friday, the Hounds won a close one over Churchill, 5-4. BHS rallied at the end after trailing 3-2 in the seventh. The Hounds responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the frame for the win.

Cam Johnson hit the game-winning RBI and finished with 2 hits and a run scored, Walker Hill hit a triple, a single and scored a run, Hudson McNew drove in 2 runs, while Brooks Perez, Caleb Cloutier and Jace Preston all scored.

Jake Wright went 5 innings and gave up 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk and fanned 3, Thomas Puckett tossed 1.1 innings and yielded a hit, a run and 3 walks to go with one K, while Perez picked up the win in 0.2 innings of work.

In its final game of the tourney, the Hounds defeated Georgetown, 17-8. They had a big inning in the fourth when they scored 12 runs.

Boerne finished with 12 hits including 6 home runs, 2 from Cam Johnson, one of which was a grand slam.

Johnson finished with 7 RBI and scored twice.

Riley Pechacek, Xander Cloudy, Jace Preston and Hudson McNew all homered in the game as well.

Pechacek also knocked out a double, collected 4 RBI and scored 3 runs, Cloudy scored twice and Preston picked up 3 RBI, while Brooks Perez and Caleb Cloutier scored twice.

Campbell Jackson went 2 innings on the hill and picked up the win. He gave up 1 hit and 1 run, while Johnson, Preston and Grimes also tossed in the game. Johnson fanned 2.
