The Boerne Independent School District, along with Vic Vaughan Toyota of Boerne, is proud to announce that Boerne Middle School North 6th Grade Math Teacher Rachel Bunker has been named the 2023 District Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made at Saturday’s Boerne Education Foundation Rock on Fundraiser. Mrs. Bunker received a $10,000 check from Vic Vaughan Toyota of Boerne, as well as a $1,500 stipend from Boerne ISD.

Boerne ISD Superintendent Dr. Thomas Price stated, “Being voted Teacher of the year is a tremendous honor. Rachel is very well deserving of this accolade. She has done a wonderful job of teaching and mentoring our students throughout her time at BISD. We greatly appreciate the hard work and sacrifice that Rachel and all our teachers have made.”

Mrs. Bunker has been teaching at Boerne ISD for 16 years, including the past eight at Boerne Middle School North. In her stellar career she has also taught at Boerne High School, Champion High School, and Curington Elementary.

Mrs. Bunker currently teaches 6th grade On Level and Honors Mathematics, as well as Gifted and Talented Independent Study for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. She is also the Student Council sponsor at BMSN, a position she has served in for over seven years.

The runner-up for District Teacher of the Year was Boerne Middle School South 6th grade Social Studies Teacher Brook Taylor, who will receive a $1,500 stipend from Boerne ISD.

Ms. Taylor has taught at Boerne Middle School South for three years, and has been in education for a total of four years. In her time at BMSS she has earned grants from the Boerne Education Foundation for three straight years (2020-2022) and was named an HEB Excellence in Education Rising Star Award Nominee in 2022.

The 12 other campus teachers of the year received $500 cash from Vic Vaughan Toyota of Boerne, as well as a $1,000 stipend from Boerne ISD.

Dr. Price continued, “Thank you to Vic and Shawn Vaughn and everyone at Toyota of Boerne for being so supportive of our school district. We have a wonderful partnership with them and are grateful for their support. We can’t thank them enough for their generous $10,000 award for Rachel.”

Boerne ISD will announce the 2023 District Rookie Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year winners at the March 27th Board of Trustees meeting.
