The boys and girls soccer teams from Boerne Champion closed out the first round of district play on Tuesday night against Buda Johnson.

The Lady Chargers were at home and the boys were on the road and it was mixed results after the Champion girls won and the boys lost.

Both Charger teams begin the second round of district Friday against New Braunfels Canyon.

Girls

Champion hosted Johnson on Tuesday and won, 4-1, to close out the first round of district.

The Lady Chargers are 6-2 in district and 9-2-2 overall. They host Canyon on Friday to start the second round.

Champion had 30 shots on goal, compared to 2 for the Jaguars.

A lot of the action came early on Tuesday and the Chargers were up 2-0 in the first six minutes. Johnson got on the board 10 minutes later and then Champion added another goal to make it 3-1 a little more than halfway through the first half.

The Chargers had the only goal of the second half midway through for the 4-1 lead.

Emily Peters recorded 2 goals, Addison Huber and Hannah Arnall both scored single goals. Avery Case, Huber, Kallyn Zaner and Mack Arendall all had one assist in the game.

Boys

Buda Johnson snapped Champion’s two-match win streak on Friday, defeating the Chargers, 3-1.

Champion ends the first round of district play at 4-5-3 overall and 3-4-1 in district. They are at NB Canyon to kick off the second round Friday.

Gabe Hernandez recorded Champion’s only goal on the assist from Crew Pulliam in Tuesday’s match at Johnson.
