Goals were hard to come by in Thursday’s TAPPS state semifinals girls match between Geneva School of Boerne and Schertz John Paul II that was held in Waco.

In fact, only one goal was scored in the match, and it went in favor of the Guardians team that went on to win the contest, 1-0, and advance to the state finals in a match played Friday morning.

Geneva finishes the year tied for third in the state in their classification.

Thursday’s match between Geneva and Schertz JP II was scoreless for the first 60 minutes, but John Paul II found the back of the net for the only goal of the match with 20 minutes remaining.

The Geneva girls tried to knock in the equalizer and send it to overtime, but the Guardians were able to complete the shutout.

Thursday’s contest between the schools marked the third time that John Paul II and Geneva have played this year.
