Champion took care of the Buttons, 77-54, and closed out the regular season at 28-6. The Chargers open the playoffs next week and face Glenn at Buda Johnson on Tuesday, 6:30 p.m., in a rematch from last season.

Champion had a chance at the district title going into Tuesday but Veterans Memorial beat Kerrville Tivy and will be the No.

1 seed, while the Chargers are the No. 2 seed.

Both the Chargers and Patriot went 14-2 in 26-5A but Veterans Memorial swept Champion to get the tiebreaker.

On Tuesday, Champion took the first two quarters, 18-11, and 21-11 for the 39-22 halftime lead. Central Catholic won the third but only by a point, 12-11, and the score was 50-34.

Both teams turned it up a notch in the final stanza and the Chargers dropped in 27 and the Buttons tallied 20.

The Chargers were letting it fly and knocked down 16 3-pointers in the game. Jesse Peart had five 3s and finished with 28 points, Braden Baum also hit five 3s and tallied 21 points, Braxton Burdick drained three 3s and scored 13 points, Charlie Georgelos had a 3 and finished with 5 points, Luke Garver and Owen Tate both hit a 3 for 3 points, while Hunter Lampkin and Ryan Erdos netted 2 points apiece.

Burdick and Georgelos each grabbed 8 rebounds, Georgelos dished out 7 assists and Peart had 5 assists.
