Geneva girls hoops team one win away from state, boys fall in playoffs

Both the Geneva School of Boerne basketball teams opened the postseason and the girls have advanced to the regional tourney, while the boys season has ended.

The Lady Eagles will play Legacy Prep Christian Academy this Saturday at La Grange High School at 2 p.m., with the winner advancing to state.

Girls

Geneva beat Brentwood Christian, 59-29, on Tuesday and improved to 27-5 overall.

The Eagles hit double digits in all four quarters and the Bears were held to single digits in every period.

Geneva was up 19-5 after one and then took a 35-12 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Eagles tallied 14 and 10 in the final two stanzas, while Brentwood scored 8 and 9.

Maegan Riebel paced the team with 16 points, Brynn Riebel added 13, Kyra Petty scored 10, Morgan Howard tallied 8, Madeline Egbert had 6 and Bethany Deluna scored 5.

Brynn Riebel snagged 7 rebounds and tallied 7 steals, Petty grabbed 6 boards and dished out 6 assists and Maegan Riebel came up with 6 steals.

Boys

The Geneva boys team made a long trip to play at Cypress Christian and came up a few points short, 53-50, to end their season.
