SAN ANTONIO – It’s on to the second round for the Boerne High girls basketball team after they ran away from Memorial on Monday night at Edgewood Gym in the 4A playoff opener for both teams.
The Boerne girls whipped the Minutemen 70-11 and improved to 31-1 overall. They’ll face the winner of Sealy – Stafford later this week in the second round.

In Monday’s game, the BHS defense never gave up more than one basket in any of the four quarters. Memorial hit a 2-pointer in the first, another 2-point in the second and a free throw and had 5 points at half.
Boerne had 5 points just 2 minutes into the game and ended the opening quarter with a 30-2 lead. The Lady Hounds outscored the Minutemen in the second 13-3 and took a 43-5 lead into halftime.
BHS had a strong third quarter and hit four 3-pointers in the period and built a 59-5 lead halfway through the stanza.
The Lady Greyhounds finished with 22 points in the third quarter, while Memorial didn’t score in the second half until almost 5 minutes had passed before hitting a 3.
Boerne ended the third ahead on the scoreboard at 65-8. At that point, all the BHS starters came out of the game and didn’t play in the final stanza.
The Lady Greyhounds finished out the contest by outscoring Memorial 5-3 in the fourth.
Jamie Ruede hit four 3s in the game and finished with 18 points, Abby Smith scored 9 in the third and tallied 16 in the game, Chloe Donnell added 9 points, Averi Aaron scored 8, Jenna Ruede hit a couple of 3s and netted 6, Savannah Salinas recorded 5 and hit a rainbow 3, Meredith Mcleod drained a 3-pointer, Mickena Randle and Sushanna Cobb both chipped in with 2, while Taegan King made a free throw for a point as 10 different Lady Hounds scored.
