Wimberley played the Boerne High girls soccer team tough last Friday night, just not tough enough to beat them as the Lady Greyhounds earned a 3-2 win on the road.
BHS improves to 14-2 overall and 5-0 in district. They were off Tuesday and play at Canyon Lake Friday to close out the first round of 26-4A action.
There were 5 goals scored in Friday’s match and 4 of them came in the first half. Boerne built a 2-0 lead but the Texans managed to tie it by halftime.
Kylie Combs tallied Boerne’s first goal on the assist from Madeline Davis for the 1-0 advantage. About 14 minutes later, the Lady Hounds pulled ahead 2-0 after Katheryn Spiekerman converted a goal.
But the Texans were able to tie it with two goals in the final seven minutes. A penalty kick made it 2-1 and then with 24 seconds until the break, Wimberley converted another goal to knot it up at 2-2.
It stayed 2-2 until late in the second half when Combs made a cross pass that Davis finished and put the Greyhounds ahead 3-2 and the lead held until the end.
