Thomas Day

Thomas Day

May 1, 1945 – February 7, 2022

Thomas “Tom” Gaylord Day Jr. passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022, at the age of 76. He was born to Thomas and Elodie (David) Day in Cuero, Texas, on May 1, 1945.

Tom grew up in Baton Rouge, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and then from Louisiana State University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business. Geaux Tigers!

After college, he joined The Travelers Insurance Employee Benefits and climbed the ladder to become a manager of the Corpus Christi office and then the San Antonio office. After 25 years, he joined Aon as a vice president and then PIA in the same role. He then became a vice president and manager for Alexander and Alexander, but ended his career by retiring from Frost Insurance Agency in San Antonio as a vice president/manager.

He was a diehard sports fan and an avid hunter who also competed in shooting events. He enjoyed playing golf and was fortunate to have two holes-in-one. Tommy also loved traveling and trying new restaurants with his wife. He was a dedicated father, proud Cajun, a loyal friend to many and his grandkids’ biggest fan.

Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edna Kay (Herbst) Day; his daughter, Rachel Naylor and husband Chad of Boerne; his son, Page Day and wife Tammy of Del Rio; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Herbst Baker of Corpus Christi; and his nieces and nephews, David Baker of Glenn Heights, Sean Dawson of New Orleans, Erin Dawson Meyers of Baton Rouge and David Dawson of Baton Rouge. Tom was blessed with four precious grandchildren, Morgan, Ryan, Ashlynn and Clayton.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, John Franklin Day Jr. and Susan Alice Bettis of Texas and Henry Jacob David and Corinne Eve Lancon of Louisiana; and his sister, Renee Day Dawson and her husband, David.

No funeral will be held. It was Tom’s wish for his cremains to be scattered by his family on the family's ranch.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org or the Alamo Mission Foundation at P.O. Box 91136, San Antonio, TX 78209.
