The Boerne Champion girls basketball team locked up a playoff spot last Friday after the Lady Chargers defeated visiting Kerrville Tivy, 58-37.
Champion is still fighting for seeding in the district but can finish no worse than third and even has a slim chance at the district title with three games left. They are currently in second place and stand at 25-6 overall and 9-2 in district.
The Chargers were scheduled to play Pieper on Thursday and have Smithson Valley and Seguin left on the schedule after that.
Champion was leading 16-10 after one quarter and then outscored the Chargers in the second period, 9-6, for the 25-16 halftime lead.
Champion took all four quarters after they edged the Antlers in the third, 10-8, for the 35-24 lead and then the Lady Chargers blew it open in the final stanza after they tallied 23 points for its best scoring quarter of the night and outscored Tivy, 23-13.
Champion hit seven 3-pointers in the game but didn’t need one in the fourth as they made 2s and FTs to get its 23 points.
Adriana Barreiro and Christine McGinn finished with 6 points apiece, Madyson Marquard netted 14 points, Addison Hankins tallied 11, Olivia Keilman knocked down a 3, Alivia Gonzales made a free throw, Bralyn Gault chipped in with 5 points and Grace Erbstoesser recorded a dozen points.
