The Boerne Champion girls basketball team may have had a slow start in Friday’s contest at Veterans Memorial, but the Lady Chargers made up for it with a strong second and third quarters.

Champion tallied 22 points in the middle two quarters for 44 of their 62 points on Friday on their way to a 62-36 victory over the Lady Patriots.

The Lady Chargers improve to 7-2 in district and 23-6 overall. They tangle with New Braunfels Canyon on Tuesday and then host Kerrville Tivy on Friday.

In Friday’s game, Veterans Memorial was leading 12-6 after one quarter, but all that changed in the second as the Chargers outscored the Patriots, 22-4.

Addison Hankins had the hot hand after she scored 10 of their 22 points in the period for the 28-16 halftime lead.

Five different Lady Chargers scored in the third as the Chargers tallied 22 points again, while the defense held Veterans Memorial to 7 for the 50-23 advantage.

The Lady Patriots won the fourth quarter but only by a point, 13-12, as the Chargers recorded the win.

Olivia Keilman knocked down four 3-pointers in the game, including two in the fourth quarter and finished with 14 points.

Hankins did all her damage in second and third quarters as she tallied all 14 of her points in those two periods to tie Keilman for team-high honors with 14 points.

Madyson Marquard finished with 11 points as three Chargers were in double digits, Hudson Lonsdale scored 7, Adriana Barreiro added 6, Christine McGinn netted 3, while Taylor Burk, Abby Sommer and Grace Erbstoesser all chipped in with 2 as nine Champion players scored in the game.
