The Comfort Deer hosted the Florence Lady Buffaloes on Tuesday and scored a 10-point victory for their first district triumph of the season, 46-36.
With the win, the Deer improve to 1-3 in district and 12-16 overall. They traveled to Ingram on Friday for a huge district showdown with the Lady Warriors.
It was a game of swings Tuesday as the Deer went on a 20-2 run to start the game and then withstood Florence’s 14-0 run to end the first half.
Comfort took a 20-16 lead into halftime and then won the second half with identical third and fourth quarters after they outscored Florence 13-10 in both stanzas.
Meghan Davis had a double-double with a season- high 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Jackie Zapata scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Lula Jaime dropped in 5 points, Emily Rivera and Bailey Feldman netted 4 points each, while freshman point guard Jael Hernandez led the Deer in steals and assists with 6 each to go with 3 points.
Katie Haffner added 2 points and Danielle Ruelas hit a free throw, while Rivera came up with 4 steals.
