The Boerne Champion girls basketball team closed out the first round of district play Friday night at home with an impressive performance against visiting Seguin.

The Boerne Champion girls basketball team closed out the first round of district play Friday night at home with an impressive performance against visiting Seguin.

Champion defeated the Lady Matadors by 42 points, 67-25 to end the first round of 26-5A action at 6-1.

The Lady Chargers are 22-5 overall and began the second round of district against Wagner on Tuesday, the only team to beat them in the first round. On Friday, they take on Veterans Memorial.

Champion was up 17-10 at the end of the first quarter and it turns out that was Seguin’s best stanza of the night. They only scored 15 points over the final three periods with 4, 6 and 5 points.

The Chargers were in double digits all four quarters and tallied 17, 16, 22 and 12. They were up 33-14 at the half and then blew it open by outscoring the Matadors in the third period, 22-6.

Eight different Chargers scored in the game, with three in double figures and two more a point away. Madyson Marquard led the team with 15 points, Grace Erbstoesser tallied 13 and Hudson Lonsdale added 10, while Olivia Keilman and Adriana Barreiro both netted 9 points.

Alivia Gonzales netted 7, while Bralyn Gault and Taylor Burk both chipped in with 2.
