Boerne High hosted Canyon Lake Tuesday for a girls district basketball game and two Lady Greyhounds hit personal milestones as the team went on to post a lopsided victory over the Hawks.
BHS crushed Canyon Lake, 79-22, while Jamie Ruede tallied her 2,000th point and Averi Aaron grabbed the 1,500th rebound of their Greyhound careers.
The Lady Greyhounds are 23-1 overall and 5-0 in district. They visited Fredericksburg Friday for a showdown with the Battlin Billies as the No. 2 and No. 3 4A teams in the state go at it.
Ruede started out on fire. She knocked down five 3s in the first quarter along with three 2-pointers for 21 points. Ruede added 5 more points in the second after hitting a 3 and a 2 for 26 first-half points to score more than Canyon Lake did in the entire game.
Ruede’s 26 points at the break helped the Lady Hounds take a 51-3 halftime lead after the Hawks didn’t score in the first and made three free throws in the second.
BHS finished out the game by outscoring the Hawks in the second half, 28-19.
Ruede dropped in another 3 in the third quarter and finished with seven 3s in the game and tallied 31 points.
Averi scored 15 points in the contest and snagged 9 rebounds, Jenna Ruede and Abby Smithy knocked in 8 points apiece, Liz Fox netted 6, Chloe Donnell added 4, Mickena Randle finished with 3, Savannah Salinas and Taegan King both chipped in with 2 points.
NOTES: Going into Tuesday’s game, Jamie Ruede needed 12 points to reach her milestone and got it in the first quarter, while Averi Aaron needed 9 rebounds to hit 1,500 and finished the game with exactly 9 boards.
