BHS boys soccer beat Apaches, also at AH tourney

The Boerne High boys soccer team opened its 2023 season last week and played in the Alamo Heights Tournament before visiting Antonian on Tuesday.

BHS went 2-1 at the tourney and beat the Apaches on Tuesday to stand at 3-1 this year. They visited South San on Friday.

Three different Greyhounds scored in Tuesday’s 3-2 win at Antonian.

Joe Ballenger scored a goal on the assist from Hudson Vickery, Jake Herman knocked in a goal on the Bear Kelly assist, while Jess Gonzales added a goal on a Ballenger assist.

Alamo Heights tourney

The Hounds went 2-1 at the Heights tourney and went to penalty kicks in those two matches.

The Greyhounds tied Weatherford 0-0 in the opener but won on penalty kicks, 4-2.

From there, Boerne tied Waxahachie 1-1 but lost on PKs. Bear Kelly scored the team’s only goal in regulation on the assist by Joe Ballenger and then Waxahachie moved on after winning in penalty kicks, 6-5.

In its final match, the Greyhounds defeated host Alamo Heights, 3-2.

The Mules were in a giving mood and surrendered an own goal off a Joe Ballenger throw-in, while Bear Kelly tallied another goal on a PK and then Ballenger knocked in Boerne’s third goal of the match on a 30-yard free kick.
