The Deer basketball team traveled to Llano on Wednesday for its second district game of the season and fell by 13 points, 40-27.
The game was moved from Tuesday to Wednesday due to the funeral of Manny Breceda who passed away last week of an epileptic seizure. Breceda was a manager for the boys basketball team and also played in the Comfort band.
With the loss the Deer fall to 11-15 overall and 0-2 in District 5-3A play. They traveled to Blanco on Friday.
Wednesday’s game was tied 13-13 at the half, but the Yellowjackets pulled away in the second half.
Llano was in double digits in both the third and fourth quarters with 16 and 11, while Comfort was limited to single digits at 9 and 5 to get outscored 27-14 in the final 16 minutes.
Katie Haffner paced the Deer with 8 points, Meghan Davis and Emily Rivera added 5 points apiece, Jael Hernandez had 3, while Lula Jaime, Bailey Feldman and Jackie Zapata all scored 2.
Davis grabbed 11 rebounds, Rivera came up with 5 steals and Hernandez dished out 4 assists.
