Hounds handle Hawks on the road

Boerne High was on the road Tuesday and earned a district win over Canyon Lake to stay undefeated in 27-4A boys basketball.

The Greyhounds clubbed Canyon Lake, 54-29, and improved to 3-0 in district and 18-5 overall. They hosted Fredericksburg on Friday.

In Tuesday’s game, Boerne was in double digits before the Hawks could get on the board on their way to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter.

BHS took the second period 15-8 and held a 32-14 advantage at halftime.

Canyon Lake never reached double digits in any of the four quarters and netted 8 in the third and 7 in the fourth. The most the Hawks scored in any of the four quarters was 8.

The Hounds tallied 13 in the third and 9 in the fourth to outscore the Hawks in the second half, 22-15.

Barrett Pape led BHS with 16 points, Trevor Agarwal tallied 14 and Koen Wolff scored 10 for three in double figures.

Houston Hendrix netted 4, Jaxon Baize and Sam Holland came up with 3 points apiece, while Luke Fox and Colton Hoegemeyer both chipped in with 2 points.

The Hounds struggled from long range and only went 2 of 13 from the 3-point line but they were good from 2-point range and went 20 for 34 for 59 percent as they found a way to win.

Hendrix grabbed 6 rebounds and Hoegemeyer snared 5 boards to go with 4 assists and Agarwal came up with 6 steals.
