Pieper played well against the Boerne Champion boys basketball team but the Chargers still came out on top during Friday’s district contest.
Champion won the game, 54-47, and improved to 21-1 overall. They are 3-0 in district and hosted Smithson Valley on Tuesday before visiting Seguin on Friday.
The eight-point difference in last Friday’s game is the closest a team has come to beating the Chargers since Sam Houston played Champion to within five points on Dec. 6.
In last Friday’s game, the Chargers were up 14-10 after one and then took the second quarter by four points again, 16-12, for the 30-22 halftime lead.
The teams tied in the third, 10-10, and the Champion lead held at 8 points 40-32. Pieper made a push in the fourth quarter but not enough of one as they won the stanza by a point, 15-14.
Braden Baum continues to play well and led all scorers with 25 points, Charlie Georgelos added 12, with 6 coming at the FT line and Dakarai Hodge finished with 10 as three Chargers were in double figures. Quinn Grable added 5 and Cole Riha hit for 2.
Baum also grabbed 8 rebounds and Georgelos had 4 assists.
